Goodbye Cilla we had a lorra lorra laughs

Cheers Cilla

Cheers Cilla

Sad news that Cilla Black has died. A Liverpool legend.

Here is my memory of her a few years ago when she came out of Bungalow 8 night club. All the photographers sang the theme tune to Blind Date all the way to her car. As Cilla got in her car she turned around and did a "Cheers" with a flower she held in her hand.

Cilla has a chuckle as all the photographers sing the Blind Date theme tune to her leaving Bungalow 8

Standing Up for Photographers Rights

Photographer Jason Sheldon started a ripple that turned into a wave when he challenged Taylor Swift about her gig photography contracts. She slightly changed her contracts, which is slightly better than before. But still a long way off freedom of the press kind of rights. Here is a recent interview with him in the Walsall Advertiser -

Krink and Grog

Flowerclava

Flowerclava

Well I've been discovering the beauty of Krink and Grog paint in squeezy bottles. This has led to my Cara Balaclava series getting experimented on. This series started from some photographs I took of Cara Delevingne wearing a balaclava at London Fashion Week. I've thrown her disembodied head and hand into a variety of fantasy outer space backgrounds. I wasn't happy after seeing the first screen prints as the image just sank into the vibrant backgrounds. I needed to work on raising the central character out of the background.

Now in the final stages, I'm adding big blobs of paint that are spread around with a smaller nibbed pen to make flowers based on the Lily. This work is influenced by the classic scene in the War film Full Metal Jacket - I'm watching it while I paint. In this scene, "Joker" played by Matthew Modine defends the Art on his helmet to a foolish Colonel - saying It reflects the duality of Man, the Jungian thing.

To me, the balaclava has the reputation of being an aggressive hat and the flower is a peaceful shape. So I though they would explode together. An abundant conflict is formed.

I've also made a simpler cartoon flower with fried egg qualities.

Queen Z at No.10 Print

Latest work is The Queen wearing a Zippy fancy dress costume from Rainbow children's TV show. Combined from a photograph taken at a festival of people wearing paper masks of The Queen and a punter wearing a hired Zippy costume placed within a photograph I had taken while waiting for action outside Downing Street. In this imagined dynamic situation Queen Z is coming out of Number 10 Downing Street in a Zippy costume carrying her mobile. Four British institutions brought together in one frame - The Queen, No.10, a British Bobby and my favorite character from Rainbow, Zippy. Spot the three crowns.
